Gijom le \u017dantilj je otkrio ovo zvezdano jato 1749. godine, a \u0160arl Mesije ga je dodao u svoj katalog 24. oktobra 1764. godine. Na nebu se mo\u017ee uo\u010diti 2\u2070 ju\u017enije od zvezde Pi Cygni i 9\u2070 severo-isto\u010dno od zvezde Deneb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Od Zemlje je udaljeno oko 1000 svetlosnih godina i jedno je od <strong>najbli\u017eih Mesijeovih objekata Zemlji<\/strong>. Starost ovog jata se procenjuje na oko 280 miliona godina. Prividna magnituda jata je +5.5. Pre\u010dnik jata je oko 7 svetlostnih godina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; M39 sadr\u017ei izmedju 30 i 50 zvezda koje spadaju u <strong>zvede glavnog niza<\/strong> \u2013 jo\u0161 uvek se de\u0161ava proces fuzije u kome se vodonik pretvara u helijum.
